France - June 2016- Omaha Beach - Center - St. Laurent, Normandy

Starting a little past the American Cemetery, a road called the Rue Bernard Anquetil runs the length of Omaha Beach to Vierville and the west end.  So we drove it and came across the Omaha Beach Memorial at Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer, roughly at the center of Omaha Beach.

There were houses all along this road.   It just kind of surprised me.  Oui, I live on a house facing Omaha Beach.

I don't know what that is on the right.  Art?  Monument?  It didn't do much for me.

There were three German Strongpoints -- WN66, WN67 and WN68 -- covering the draw to St. Laurent.

A nice placard written in both French and English on the overall Omaha Beach landing.

The road to the right leads inland to Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer.

But we are heading for L'Omaha restaurant for dinner.  The German strongpoint WN68 was in those hills behind the restaurant.

We had a great dinner; it might have been my favorite of the entire trip.

Lynnette enjoyed the muscles.

We stayed at the B&B CM Les Vignets for two nights while visiting the Normandy area and specifically Omaha Beach. This B&B was perfect for us and we would stay again if we ever come back. Which I would like to since there is so much to see and we were not able to see it all. The B&B is located very close to Omaha Beach and is central to most of the places, from Utah Beach to Caen. The B&B has its own large courtyard so parking was a non-issue.  The room was comfortable and very nice. The breakfast was excellent. We signed up for the French dinner and greatly enjoyed dining with Magali (pictured here) and her family. Recommended!
